Experience & Strengths

My experience as a practicing attorney, business entrepreneur, founder and owner of a strategic planning and governmental affairs project management company, along with my history of successful leadership in all levels of Kiwanis, gives me a unique understanding of the needs of our organization and abilities to get things done. My life’s journey has led me along a path from trial and legal advocacy to innovative problem solving in the private and public sectors. Along this path, acquired tools of sensitive listening, innovation, problem solving, and tireless work ethic have led to successful solutions resolving complex business issues.

Because of this background and proven record of delivering solutions, I have been assigned to numerous special projects, while serving on your Board. I chaired the Worldwide Service Project (WSP) Selection Taskforce and I am currently chairman of the WSP Steering Committee, which is planning and designing next steps for organization and deployment, including negotiating with finalists regarding developing expectations and role of Kiwanis, criteria, benchmarks, media plan, communication plan, staffing, strategic alliances, and other critical path requirements.

In addition, I recently chaired the KI/KIF Joint Task Force and KI/KIF Working Group that created best practices blueprint and templates for Joint operation of Staff and Boards improving program management through cost savings and effectiveness, while building trust and fostering collaboration. I currently serve on Joint KI/KIF Major Donor Campaign Task Force working to revitalize and grow our Foundation.

Not only do I believe I can lead, I am a results-oriented person who means what he says and does what he promises.

Story

My first Kiwanis moment that changed my life was the day my neighbor Doug Shields invited me to lunch with the Corpus Christi Del Mar Kiwanis Club. By virtue of attending that meeting and participating in a service project soon thereafter, I became aware that my priorities had been misplaced. I discovered that the way to feel better about yourself is to make someone else feel better. Each one of us has come to know Kiwanis in a different way, but each one of us has been touched by a Kiwanian.

Shortly after joining Kiwanis, I volunteered to work at a Special Olympics track event. I served as a “Hugger” at the end of a 50yard dash. During one race, the contestant in my lane fell and required assistance to cross the finish line in last place. At the award presentation, the contestant, who received the gold medal for winning, removed the medal from his neck and draped it over the head of the injured last place finisher. I witnessed, firsthand, a glimpse of God’s mercy and grace. After wiping the tears from my eyes, I decided, at that moment, to be a Kiwanian for life.
